A local flight school is suing an Indian-American girl who survived a fatal 2023 helicopter crash in Long Island, alleging incompetence and wrongful death. According to the complaint filed in Queens Supreme Court on February 28, the crash, which claimed the lives of her family and the captain, may have prevented.
When the Piper PA-28 plane crashed on March 5, 2023, close to Farmingdale’s Republic Airport, Reeva Gupta, 33, was seriously burned and had continuous disability. She claimed that Danny Waizman Aviation, the parent company of 2 BA Captain NYC, omitted previous security warnings, which eventually led to the deadly accident.
A report from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB ) found that an electrical short was most likely to cause an in-flight fire. The flight school failed to carry out required repair despite the lawsuit’s claim that the same plane had twice experienced aircraft smoke incidents prior to the collision. An electric damage compromised an oil pressure line, which caused a leak that ignited in the middle of the flight, according to investigators.
According to Gupta,” someone wanted to make money, and my family’s life was lost, and the pilot’s life was lost, and my life is permanently changed.”
Gupta, who had booked the trip training with Groupon for herself and her family, Roma, recalls just as the fireplace engulfed the room started to appear from beneath her family’s seat. Fayzul Chowdhury, a 23-year-old aircraft, primarily survived but eventually succumbed to his wounds.
After spending six weeks in a medically induced coma, Gupta, a former surgery physician assistant, suffered burns to the upper half of her body, various amputations, and months of intensive care in a burn unit.
Gupta hopes that her lawsuit may encourage stricter safety measures to stop similar tragedies from occurring in the future while pursuing justice for her mother and the aircraft.
