Luigi Mangione, accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has drawn widespread attention on social media after a letter he wrote to the mother of a sick child went viral.
Past investigative journalist and author Ashley Shelby revealed on Substack that a 66-year-old person, identifying herself as Karen, had written to Luigi Mangione about her problems with United Healthcare.
According to Newsweek, before on Wednesday, Shelby published photos of the text in a Substack content titled” Warrior Jesus and a Email From Luigi”, sharing what she claimed was Mangione’s response to Karen’s information.
The family’s text describes her mother’s situation, which involves a unique and possibly fatal illness requiring ongoing medical attention and care. In her email, Karen shared about her and her mother’s health challenges, enclosing an picture of the Christ in Majesty tile.
In his comment, Mangione wrote:” Dear Karen, your text is the first to render me pull up. I am so, so guilty for what you and your child so blindly had to experience”.
He noted that the pictures he received were reproduced in “blurry black and white” and suggested using an app for color transmission, the channel reported.
He wrote:” If you are able to take a picture of you/your girl or the tile, it may indicate a great deal to me. I did put it up on my captivity mobile wall next to your email”.
” Your daughter is blessed to have a family who loves her so much and fights for her so relentlessly”, he added.
Earlier in February, through his army staff, Mangione issued a common reaction regarding the letter he had received at the Metropolitan Detention Center.
His speech read:” I read every one that I receive. Thank you afterwards to everyone who took the time to read. I look forward to hearing more in the future”.
The 26-year-old accused of shooting UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel in December, faces 11 charges in New York, including first-degree death “in continuation of an act of terrorism” and two matters of second-degree death.
He has pleaded not guilty to the state charges but has yet to provide a plea for national costs. Mangione is set to appear in national court on March 19, while his next hearing in the New York state event is scheduled for June 26.
