Five takeaways as Anna Giaritelli fields questions from C-SPAN viewers on border

Giaritelli has covered immigration, country security, and borders issues for around six times. She is based in Austin, Texas.

Visitors asked her questions about immigration as President Donald Trump promised sweeping changes to deal with the frontier problems while on the campaign trail.

Saw no refugees cross borders for the first time in about 60 trips

Giaritelli said she just spent five days with U. S. Border Patrol on area and on the valley, but did not see anyone attempting to cross the border — a first in the 60 excursions she has taken to the border.

” It was the first day in all those trips that I was with Border Patrol, five days on the river and on land, we did not see a single immigrant attempt to cross the river. We’ve never seen that in all my trips before”, she said.

She said the drastically lower border crossing images can be attributed to a” Trump result”.

Education officials have not seen persecution at schools

Giaritelli said she spoke with Los Angeles, California, training officers and the National Education Association, who told her they have not seen any kids deported by ICE in college.

” All these companies and school districts said we have not had a single pupil arrested in our classrooms, and the only thing we have seen is a family who is dropping kids off at university arrested by ICE”.

Biden presidency used CBP One software as an immigration application

The immigration writer detailed how the Biden administration changed the CBP One application from being mostly used for commercial-related travel into the United States to being used by unlawful immigrants to enter and stay in the U. S.

” What CBP did under Biden was added in a work at the president’s demand for people who are in Mexico to be able to obtain an interview with a CBP agent at a port of entry to see if they could get paroled into the United States”, Giaritelli said. ” The notion was that people, instead of crossing illegally and coming across, we don’t know where or when you’re coming, we hope we arrest you and get you and you don’t get into the land with without being arrested. By going to a port of entry, they could finally survey that and launch you into the state”.

She added that” we saw 700, 000 people enter into the land through this app”.

Have no’ really seen any actions’ on H-1B immigration program

The H-1B Visa software took center stage in the political debate in December, when Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy suggested that the U. S. use the system more to bring qualified workers into the country.

Some conservative activists strongly opposed for a walk.

” We have not seen any motion actually yet on the H-1B card software. President Trump is actually focused on the frontier. He certainly wants legal emigration to become merit-focused, skills-focused”, Giaritelli said. ” I think in the next couple of months, even the next year or so, we may observe President Trump actually move on the H-1B software, overhauling that”.

Government ‘ can only do so much’ with available money under funds

The Trump administration is hoping to following through on one of the largest imprisonment businesses actually, and the government has made progress on the lofty ambition. ICE is arresting and detaining about twice to triple the amount of people per day than it did during much of the Biden administration.

Checking WHAT DOGE IS DOING ACROSS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

However, there remain restrictions surrounding the Department of Homeland Security’s resources, appropriated under the Biden management.

” They are operating out of their 2024 costs, which under the Biden administration, detention and removal of illegal immigrants were considerably lower than they were at the level that President Trump is going and therefore ICE can only do so much with the money it has left in its bag, which isn’t much”, Giaritelli said.
