Britain’s King Charles III made an appeal on Saturday for unification in “uncertain days”, as the 76-year-old king emerges as a vital find in the UK’s political travel over Ukraine.
Britain and Western states have been scrambling to provide a united front following US President Donald Trump‘s abrupt departure of support for Ukraine three times into Russia’s invasion.
By convention, the British head of government’s role is politically neutral. But in recent days, Charles has hosted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at his private property and invited Trump for a traditional second position visit.
On Monday, Charles will give a concept for Commonwealth Day, which celebrates the 56-nation club of mostly former British colonies.
According to extract published late on Saturday, Charles– who heads the Commonwealth– said countries ‘ differences should be a” supply of strength”.
” In these uncertain times, where it is all too easy to believe that our disparities are problems instead of a source of strength and an opportunity for learning, the Commonwealth’s impressive collection of nations and peoples come together in the nature of support and, crucially, friendship”.
Earlier on Saturday, American leader Keir Starmer said that Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese was considering joining a group of states prepared to protect an eventual peace in the Russia-Ukraine battle.
European leaders have held talks with around 20 states interested in being part of the so-called” alliance of the willing”, a UK established said on Thursday.
The standard refused to name the countries but said they were “largely German and Commonwealth companions”.
Charles ‘ concept is set to be published in whole on Monday.
