
One police officer was killed and another was wounded after a 14-year-old believe fired dozens of shots at law enforcement officials during an illegal firearms research on Friday in Newark, New Jersey.
According to The New York Post, Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephen confirmed that 26-year-old Newark Police Detective Joseph Azcona was killed following Friday’s firing. During a Saturday news conference, Stephens told investigators,” Five-year former Joseph Azcona was shot before he even had the opportunity to keep his officers car”.
Stephens explained that Azcona died from his wounds at 2: 34 a. m. at University Hospital on Saturday while surrounded by his home.
Following the death of the officers inspector, Gov. Phil Murphy (D-N. J. ) released a statement on X, previously Online, saying,” Detective Joseph Azcona represented the very best of legislation enforcement — honor, integrity, expertise, and a strong commitment to serving the public. An unbelievable lost for his home and the , @NewarkNJPolice. Does he Sleep in Immortal Peace”.
Authorities said both Azcona and his companion were injured during Friday’s killing that took place near Carteret Street and Broadway in Newark at about 6: 30 p. m.
” Based on legal knowledge, the authorities were investigating the possibility that these people had improper weapon”, Stephens told reporters. ” Pictures were exchanged upon the interaction with the officers and those people, and however two soldiers and one believe were hit by gunshots”.
According to The New York Post, sources indicated that the 14-year-old believe, who has not yet been identified, fired 29 photos at the police officers. Following the shooting event, law enforcement officials recovered an involuntary tool believed to have been used by the suspect, who now faces charges of murder and attempted murder.

” We need to focus light strong on trying to find the reason why this 14-year-old was in the position that he was — had a firearm, felt he could use it against police”, Stephens added. ” That’s a crazy situation. That’s one that cannot get unregulated”.
While Azcona died after Friday night’s firing, the other officer and the 14-year-old believe are both expected to recover from their gunshot wounds after receiving care at University Hospital, according to The New York Post.
Addressing Friday’s tragedy, Newark Mayor Ras Baraka said,” These are officers who got up yesterday morning to do their job, to go outside and make certain our streets were secure, to make sure 8-year-olds are not killed by deviate bullets,  , to create sure , our mothers may sit on their balconies in peace, to make sure our neighborhoods are certainly overrun with violence and weapons”.
” They were doing their work getting intelligence , about , guns on the street and they went to the scene, a picture many of us would never have gone to, knowing that harm life it”, Baraka added. ” They went anyhow, and however, one of our soldiers did not recover from that”.
