
A Bangladeshi man serving in the Russian troops was killed in a Ukrainian drone attack on Saturday.
Tirkha Bahadur Budhathoki, 44, from hospital 5 of Sunchhahari Rural Municipality in Rolpa, died in the attack. He had travelled to , Russia , via , India , in , September 2023 , to meet the Russian army and had been serving for nearly 18 weeks.
The drone attack targeted a four-member Soviet system, including Budhathoki and another Nepali man. While Budhathoki and a Soviet man died on the spot, the remaining two suffered injuries.
His parents, 70-year-old , Om Bahadur Budhathoki, said he had lost touch with his brother since , February 25. ” He had gone out of touch many times before, but this time, the announcement of his dying came instead”, he said sadly.
The community learned about his dying from another Nepali man in his system.
Unsure whether his body will become repatriated, they have begun symbolic burning customs at home. ” We heard he was killed in a helicopter attack in a faraway land. Whether his body will gain is mysterious, so we have started the festivals”, his father said.
Budhathoki had served in the , Nepal Army , for about two and a half times before being elected as hospital head from the CPN-UML in 2017. He is survived by his parents, family, and two kids.
Local staff have visited his home to offer apologies.
Before, two other men from Rolpa died in Russian strikes while serving in the Soviet army.
The selection of Nepalis into international armies without proper contracts, such as in , Russia, remains a controversial topic.  , Nepal , now allows its residents to provide in only the British and Indian forces. Therefore, the involvement of Nepalis in the Russian war has raised major problems. Reports suggest that some Nepalis go to , Russia , on scholar or work permits and are consequently recruited into military services.
Although Nepali legislation prohibits people from joining foreign soldiers without proper treaties, limited financial opportunities at home have compelled some to get such risks.
