DHAKA: Amid growing protests against attacks on people and rising instances of murder, Bangladesh police on Thursday imposed limits on all kinds of discussions, gatherings, meetings, parades and showdowns in key areas for an indefinite period.
Areas under limitations include the official residence of deputy director Mohammad Yunus, the secretary and local locations. Bangladesh has witnessed intensified presentations in recent days, with demonstrators demanding withdrawal of the home director for failing to maintain safety and security of citizens, particularly women and girls.
However, the Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council issued a press statement stating that 92 incidents of violence targeting immigrants and indigenous peoples occurred in the first two weeks of this year. It is worth noting that in the five months — from Aug 4 to Dec 31 of last year — there were 2, 184 attacks targeting immigrants, the team said.
