
Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-Ariz. ) passed away on Thursday at the age of 77 after going through” complications” with his lung cancer treatments.
The Democrat lawmaker’s office staff stated in a statement on Thursday that it was” saddened to learn about the transferring of Congressman Raul M. Grijalva” and that he had “fought a long and brave war” with him.
More than 20 years ago, Rep. Grijalva embarked on a trip to be a message for Southern Arizonans in Washington, D.C. Driven by his group values and nature, he worked hard and accomplished so far — for Arizona and for the region.
Grijalva was referred to in Congress for his labor on the House Natural Resources Committee, according to Fox News.
In a statement released on Thursday, Grijalva’s company emphasized that the Democrat representative’s “proudest events” in Congress were “guided by society voices” as he worked on measures like “permanently protecting” the Grand Canyon and” strengthening” the Affordable Care Act.
His team praised his efforts to achieve “he led the charge” for traditional investments in climate change, port of entry development, permanent financing for land and water protection programs, justice for immigrant families and Dreamers, student loan forgiveness, stronger protections for farmers and workers exposed to extreme heat, expansion of early childhood education, higher standards for cultural consultation, and many others.

Grijalva confirmed in a statement from last April that he had been diagnosed with cancer after receiving medical treatment for a “persistent cough” that doctors initially believed to be the result of pneumonia. The Democrat lawmaker was reportedly under investigation for skipping numerous congressional votes while receiving cancer in the past year, according to Fox News.
We are devastated by this news, but we are determined to carry on his legacy. The office of Grijalva was added. Our office will continue to provide constituent services while the special election is being conducted.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N. ) became aware of the Democrat lawmaker’s passing. Y. ) released a statement in Grijalva’s honor on X, a former Twitter account. Ocasio-Cortez described Grijalva’s passing as a “genuinely heartbreaking loss.”
Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that” Raul Grijalva stood as one of the biggest champions for working people in Congress.” His leadership was exceptional. He was a wonderful friend and mentor. I’ll always be appreciative of his unwavering bravery and commitment.
Rep. Juan Ciscomani (R-Ariz. ) also made a statement regarding the congressman’s passing. Ciscomani referred to Grijalva as a “dedicated public servant” and a “fearless champion of the causes he believed in.”
He welcomed me into our congressional delegation warmly and treated me with dignity and respect, Ciscomani continued.
