As Americans face rising chicken charges, the Nordic nation’s chicken association reported on Friday that the United States has reached out to Denmark and other Western countries asking if they can trade eggs.
A raft of new US taxes, including those in Europe, are being brought on by the US Department of Agriculture’s demand, which coincides with it. As a rapid outbreak of bird flu in laying eggs reduces products, US retail chicken costs are smashing information. Trump promised to lower egg charges on his first time in business, but the price increased by 59 % year over year for the first full quarter of his presidency.
A representative of the US Department of Agriculture in Europe sent official inquiries to egg-producing nations in late February, according to a text reviewed by Reuters, seeking information on their capacity and willingness to sell eggs to the US market.
Do you have an estimate of the number of eggs that could be delivered to the United States ( presuming they meet all the import requirements ), according to a follow-up letter sent to the Danish egg association in early March?” We’re still waiting for more guidance from Washington on next steps. The letter, which was delivered last month, stated that” Washington is trying to get an estimate of the amount they could possibly source.”
The Danish Egg Association stated that although there is no egg deficit in Europe, they will investigate. Because use is rising and many people are suffering from animal flu, he continued,” There is a lack of eggs outside on a global scale.”
The spokesperson stated that they had enquired more information about the terms of such an agreement, revealing that regulations relating to health and other factors were making ovum exports to the US challenging.
Turkey announced in February that it had begun sending about 15, 000 kilograms of egg to the US. As part of a$ 1 billion effort to combat bird flu, US agriculture secretary Brooke Rollins announced last month that the country would be looking into importing eggs. A request for comment was not immediately responded to by the US consulate in Copenhagen.
