The Russian commander of a goods dispatch that struck a ship in the North Sea off the UK’s northeast coast was charged with total neglect murder on Saturday.
Vladimir Motin, 59, was detained in prison after appearing before courts in the harbor of Hull. He did not enter a plea, and he will then show up in court on April 14 in London’s Old Bailey.
Motin, a resident of Primorsky, St. Petersburg, was detained on Monday after his fleet, the Portuguese-flagged Solong, struck the fuel-filled ship Stena Immaculate, igniting both of them.
Prior to this, Humberside Police claimed that “extensive requests” by HM Coastguard to find a lost team representative from the Solong had failed to find him.
State prosecutors identified the staff member as 38-year-old Filipino Mark Angelo Pernia, who is currently being held indefinitely, according to the authorities.
At the time of the collision, the US-flagged cargo, which had been chartered by the US government, was anchored off the beach of Hull in northern England.
Given” the challenges of the incident,” the Humberside police force stated in a statement. Police were given two modifications on Wednesday and Thursday to give the captain more occasion to question him.
The actual cause of the incident has been the subject of an investigation led by the UK, with US and Portuguese groups working to determine why the Solong did never depart its course as it ploughed into the ship.
The UK authorities has so far rejected bad play.
