After her airplane was allowed to exit, even as a federal judge issued a law aimed at preventing her quick deportation from the United States, according to family and friends of a Rhode Island doctors, officials wanted to arrest her at all costs.
The deadline for the purchase was Friday. At the same time, a Dr. Rasha Alaweih-built plane waited on the tarmac at Boston’s Logan International Airport and was given permission to take off.
” They ( authorities ) did not do anything to halt the aircraft. So it was obvious that they wanted to arrest her regardless of whether a judge had issued an order or not. She acted morally, according to Dr. Basma Merhi, a close friend and affiliate of the jailed doctor, in an interview with The Providence Journal.
Alawieh had been working and studying in the US for six times, and she has been employed at Rhode Island’s Division of Kidney Disease & Hypertension since July 2024.
According to Dr. George Bayliss, the graft team’s medical director, she used that office to evaluate potential transplant candidates and monitor their progress post-procedure.

According to home companion Merhi and attorney Thomas Brown, who manages immigration and visa issues for Brown Medicine-affiliated doctors, customs authorities detained Alawieh, 34, on Thursday as she returned from a fortnight-long community trip to Lebanon.
Brown claimed Alawieh was traveling with an H-1B visa that was just issued from the American consulate in Lebanon.
Employers can sponsor highly-qualified foreign professionals for” specialty occupations” thanks to the H-1B classification, which is a temporary permit.
Brown claimed that the visa granted Alaweih stay through the middle of 2027.
He mentioned that a minor visa application issue that Alawieh had been in the airport detention was “relatively easy” to resolve.
” They did issue the visa, so as far as I know, whatever is going on is not the result of the actions at the American consulate. She declared her intention to return. She had the right passport and the right visa. Everything appeared to be working,” he said.
With Yara Chehab, her cousin, filing a complaint in US District Court, Massachusetts, against the Department of Homeland Security and the Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ) officials the following day, Alawieh’s supporters intervened quickly to stop her deportation.
Chebab claimed that federal authorities were holding her cousin in’unlawful’ detention and not permitting attorneys to speak with Alaweih.
According to the complaint, “CBP refuses to provide any justification for their detention, refuses to allow the attorneys to speak with Dr. Alawieh, and refuses to provide assurances that Dr. Alawieh will not be deported to Lebanon,” according to the complaint.
Later that day, US District Judge Leo Sorokin issued an order preventing Alawieh from leaving Massachusetts without giving 48 hours ‘ notice to the court to review the case.
Immigration officials are unsure as to when the order will be received. In this regard, CBP Ryan Brissette did not respond to inquiries.
She claims to be being treated like a terrorist.
According to her family friend, Alawieh is currently being held in custody at the Paris airport and scheduled to travel to Lebanon on Sunday.
When she landed in Paris, Aliceih received a brief phone call and contacted her mother for some reassurances. She is being viewed as a terrorist. It is absurd. She is a skilled physician who treats patients. And she abides by all the laws. Nothing that she does is wrong is done. And her visa is current, the friend continued.
