Military analysts and soldiers claim that Russian troops have withdrawn from all but a small portion of the Kursk region of Russia as their months-long siege and hold of the country is about to come to an end. At the height of the offensive, Ukrainian forces seized control of some 500 square miles ( 1295sq km ) of Russian territory. According to Pasi Paroinen, a military analyst, they were clinging to a tiny strip of land along the Russian-Ukrainian border on Sunday, which is only 30 square miles ( 77sq km ). The goal of the ongoing battle in Kursk is now to control the best defensive jobs to stop the Russians from advancing into Ukraine’s Sumy area and launching a new front in the conflict.
