According to the US Geological Survey, an earthquake of magnitude 3.9 occurred Sunday at 8.17 pm ( local time ) near Malibu.
Residents of Thousand Oaks, which is located about four miles away, experienced a few minor but persistent quivering. Witnesses described a side-to-side action lasting about 10 hours, calling it” a very good rattle.”
The quake was discernible but “wasn’t all that violent,” according to Sheriff’s Sgt. Statement made by Joseph De Mel to The LA Times. Sheriff’s deputies did not report any harm.
As per USGS reports, mild tremors were found from Long Beach to Oxnard by 9.15 pm ( local time ), including near downtown Los Angeles.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located four miles from Westlake Village, seven yards from Agoura Hills, and nine kilometers from Oak Park.
Within the last ten times, the area has experienced two tremors of scale 3.0 or higher. A 4. 1 magnitude earthquake that was a week before and was a part of a series of moderate spasms in the area.
Since 2024, the area has seen average seismic activity grow. According to Lucy Jones, a geologist and research associate at Caltech, Southern California recorded 15 geological segments throughout 2024, each with a scale 4. 0 or greater disaster. This is the highest monthly matter in over 60 years.
