US President Donald Trump received the highest approval score of his presidency in only three weeks of taking office, according to a new NBC News poll. More Americans believe the country is on the right track than it has ever been since 2004 according to the study, which was released on Sunday.
Despite the encouraging results, Trump has yet to get over the majority of Americans. His rating for approval is 47 %, while 51 % disapprove of his leadership. This is his highest score in NBC’s polling past, matching earlier highs from first 2020 and October 2018.
A decline in aid for Trump’s economic strategy is one of the most obvious poll-related changes. For the first time, 54 % of voters disapprove of his economic policies. Despite recent volatility in the stock market, voters overwhelmingly believe Trump is making the right kind of change on important issues, including taxes.
A Wall Street selloff last week resulted from Trump’s contentious decision to impose a 25 % tariff on Canadian and Mexican imports and a 20 % tariff on China. However, the poll suggested that the electorate is also supportive of his trade policies.
He received the most votes for how effectively he handled immigration issues, with 56 % of respondents saying they found his actions on border security to be beneficial. His government cuts received a relatively strong amount of support, with 47 % in favor and 29 % opposed. More respondents backed his approach ( 41 % and 40 % approval, respectively ), than opposed it on contentious international issues like the Ukraine war and NATO.
According to The New York Post, 40 % of people believe Trump’s policies are having a positive impact, 30 % believe they are worsening things, and 28 % say they haven’t changed.
Trump also has a staggering 90 % approval rating among Republicans, which is overwhelming. Only 4 percent of Democrats, according to NBC, review of his performance, which is the largest difference between a government’s own group and the criticism in 80 years.
A two-decade high of 44 % now indicates that the nation is on the right track, while 54 % state otherwise. This is the most enthusiastic nation’s perspective since George W. Bush’s presidency, despite the country’s total decline. Only 28 % of voters believed the nation was heading in the right direction as of September, the lowest percentage since then.
The creation of the department of government efficiency ( DOGE ), one of Trump’s most talked-about initiatives, was one of his most popular initiatives during his second term. The action sparked outcry from federal employees and drew stern criticism from Democrats.
Despite being unpopular overall ( 47 % disapprove, 41 % approve ), the NBC poll found that voters generally believed the idea behind DOGE was sound, with 46 % saying it was a good idea. Trump has continued to support both DOGE and Elon Musk, a vital figure in the action, with unwavering support.
Trump has faced his fair share of difficulties, but voters see the Democrat Party as struggling perhaps more. With the lowest approval rating in NBC News ‘ polling history, only 27 % of voters approve of the party, while 55 % of voters don’t. Democrats received their lowest rating ever, with only 29 % favorability, according to a separate CNN poll that reflected these findings.
Between March 7 and March 11, the NBC News surveys polled 1, 000 registered citizens.
