Despite numerous instances of strange helicopter swarms over vulnerable military installations, a former US military commander cautioned that Washington officials have underestimated the danger posed by drones in American airspace. Glen Van Herck, a retired US air force general who previously served as the US’s northern command and North American Aerospace Defense Command, claimed that the nation still lacks the necessary laws and regulations to deal with these incidents.
Unidentified drones flew over Langley Air Force Base in Virginia for 17 times straight, according to Van Herck, in December 2023. This occurred before the helicopter exercise over New Jersey at the end of last year attracted the attention of the public. Authorities are still unable to deal with these risks, however.
Eventually, a senior Biden administration official downplayed the Langley incidents, claiming that hobbyists were likely to blame for the intrusions. VanHerck argued that the information was inconvenient, and that VanHerck was right.
” It certainly may possess a foreign connection, a danger nexus,” he said.
They could be monitoring critical system, but it would be so uncomfortable that we would be unable to do anything about it because they could be doing it on a daily basis.
General Gregory Guillot, his immediate son, testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee in support of increased authority to protect military deployments from drones.
Guillot said,” The main danger I see for them in the manner they’ve been operating is the security of sensitive features on our installations,” despite the fact that he did not name the robots ‘ owners.
Drone exercise over military installations is not a recent occurrence. US Navy ships off the coast of California were surrounded by lots of drones for weeks in 2019. The Pentagon initially did little to dispel rumors that they were UFOs, even referring videos to their” UAP Task Force” for analysis. However, boats ‘ reports indicated that they were actually classified as robots at the time. The Navy had a suspicion that a local, Hong Kong-flagged ship was to blame, but was unable to verify it.
However, The War Zone, a defence news website, has documented numerous aircraft intrusions at delicate locations, including the Palo Verde nuclear plant in Arizona and an experimental weapons service in Southern California, where defence contractors are developing the next generation of cunning bombers.
On December 14, 2023, Virginia native Jonathan Butner personally witnessed the Langley aircraft cluster at his family’s room on the James River. The scene was described as extraordinary by Butner, who is familiar with a number of military aircraft.
They actually started coming in, he said, about like they were on a conveyor belt.
He took almost 90 days of film and sent it to the FBI to help them with their research.
The highest-ranking agent at Langley to see the swarming, retired four-star public Mark Kelly, confirmed that they were drones and that they had a range of styles, speeds, and heights.
According to Kelly,” the smallest types were about the length of a professional quadcopter.” The largest were likely the same size as a tiny car or a guitar ship.
While the majority of the US was focused on the device incidents in New Jersey, another cluster of drones slowed down procedures at a US airbase that housed US nuclear weapons.
The US Army confirmed 11 aircraft observations over Picatinny Arsenal in New Jersey, where innovative arms are being developed, last November. The observations sparked a public outcry, with helicopter reports coming in from all over the area.
Prior to his opening, then-President Trump promised to find out about the observations. Press secretary Karoline Leavitt asserted that the robots were” not the opponent” and that they were “authorized by the FAA for studies and various other factors” in her first White House press briefing.
The military services committee’s president, Senator Roger Wicker, has emphasized the importance of national security in relation to the aircraft swarms. He claimed that the instances continue to puzzle the Pentagon and regional security.
A new war truth is that drones can also be used to control them. In problems like those in Russia and Ukraine, drones have been used to demolish sophisticated plane. According to Van Herck, the same thing could happen in the US.
It’s a priority, to put it simply. He warned against the possibility of multiple missions by a small unmanned aircraft system ( UAS ).
