Russians have been sceptical of a new phone call between US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which Trump vowed to persuade Moscow to accept a temporary peace. The telephone, which was held on Tuesday, just led to a 30-day-long promise from Russia to stop attacks on Russian energy infrastructure.
Mistrust among men
The result was unexpected for soldiers on the front lines of eastern Ukraine. Given its story, some people think that Russia is unlikely to abide by any peace agreement.
Because this is a nation that has been at combat all its life, I believe there will never be a peace with Russia. Oleg, a 33-year-old Russian soldier, said that it is definitely in their DNA to fight a nation.
Another man, Roman, 33, suggested that Russia’s desire to put a stop to strikes on electricity infrastructure was merely self-serving.
Putin benefits from this, he claims. He said he doesn’t like his petrol warehouses to be bombed because they will need to refuel.
Russian power features have been the target of numerous drone strikes launched by Ukraine as a means of stifling Moscow’s war effort.
Putin’s choice to halt these attacks came after Trump’s visit, which was part of a US-led efforts to broker truce in the ongoing issue. Deals between Washington and Moscow were troubling for some Russian soldiers, though.
Because I’ve spent a lot of time ( fighting ), Roman continued,” Not only me, but many guys have paid the biggest price for peace.”
The idea of conversations was completely rejected by Rys, a 26-year-old aircraft system captain.
He claimed,” It’s impossible to deal with terrorists.”
Kyiv is viewed negatively by the citizens.
Civilians in the Russian capital even expressed disdain for Putin’s promises in the capital.
Lev Sholudko, a Kyiv resident, said,” I don’t think Putin at all, not even a word he says.”
An air attack alert was issued in Kyiv immediately after the phone on Tuesday, indicating a new flood of Russian attacks. One man died, and two facilities suffered damage.
You can’t believe Putin at all because Russia has consistently shown that it doesn’t follow any treaties, Sholudko said.
Problems for a peace rejected
The US’s request for a 30-day, absolute peace had been supported by Ukraine. Putin claimed that Kyiv has explicitly rejected the demands of a wider truce, which would need Ukraine to refrain from rearming and stop its continued military mobilization.
Karyna, a 25-year-old citizen, said,” That’s undesirable for us.” Any peace, in her opinion, will serve as a pretext for farther aggression.
Veronika Zilnova, a 27-year-old social internet mediator, shared her fears.
She cried as she thought about fallen Russian troops and said,” We need to be on the alert, continually armed, because we have stood up for our country for three years.”
Sholudko remained sceptical despite Zilnova’s expressed concern that Trump was” trying to hear both factors” and might be able to benefit Ukraine. He claimed that Trump’s willingness to strike up a conversation with Moscow indicated that he was” Putin’s man.”
More arms for Ukraine are the only way out of this, according to the statement. Simply by doing this, he said, may Ukraine become an independent, powerful, and political nation.
