A retired Royal Bank of Canada ( RBC ) executive won the most money in an Ontario lottery, earning the top prize.
Charles Coffey, 81, who spent more than four years of his career working for Canada’s largest lender, first believed he had won C$ 25, 000. But after a closer examination, he realized that he had erred by adding three more digits. His ticket was actually worth an incredible C$ 25 million ( 17.4 million ).
” That’s interesting,” one might say. was Coffey’s initial response, according to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation ( OLG), which was cited by Bloomberg.
Coffey, a native of New Brunswick, previously held the position of executive vice president of state affairs and organization development at RBC before resigning in 2006. Beyond bank, he established a name for himself as a voice for marginalized populations, and he received the renowned Order of Canada in 2003 for his efforts. He has long advocated for Indigenous knowledge and business philanthropy, and he even received an honorary title as an honourable chief while he was a Winnipeg resident.
This victory gives me the chance to continue to support the reasons I’ve worked for ages,” Coffey said in an OLG speech. I want to support organizations that require a stronger tone and support the idea of a hand-up and a handout.
However, Coffey has a plan in mind before jumping into altruism: taking his family on a much-needed vacation.
