President Donald Trump announced on Friday the creation of a new 6th century fighter jet system as one of his first moves to revitalize the U.S. government’s capabilities for warfighting.
Trump stated in a press conference that the United States Air Force is moving forward with the second fighter jet of its kind in the world. Nothing in the universe compares to it, and it will be known as the F-47.
The president referred to the new system as” something that nobody has seen before in all of the characteristics of a warrior jet” and noted that “nothing even comes close to it, from rate to agility to payload.”
He continued,” This has been in the functions for a really long time.”
Trump made it known that Boeing may develop the new fighter jets. This puts an end to Lockheed Martin’s” position as the only excellent company producing stealth fighters in the West, particularly the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Joint Strike Fighter,” according to Breaking Defense.
The president disputed the cost of the program, citing concerns that it might reveal the size of the jet and” some of the technology” used by American enemies.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth addressed the press conference on Friday, saying,” This is a big day for our warfighters, a big day for our country, [and ] a big day for our world.”
Hegseth said,” Mr. President, because of your leadership and quality, America will have years in the future of atmosphere dominance thanks to this sixth-generation fighter.” This initiative” sents a very clear, direct message to our allies that we are not going anywhere and that we will be able to project our power unhinged all over the world for generations to come” ( p. 14 ).
The senator also took some time to mention the rise in military hiring since his election in November during Friday’s briefing. Under Joe Biden’s president, all departments struggled to meet their recruiting goals, with the exception of the Marine Corps.
The Army revealed earlier this year that its December 2024 interviewing numbers were the branch’s highest total for the month in 15 times. The Army had a comparable record in January, according to ABC News.
Additionally, it appears that the Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Space Force are on record to meet their individual 2025 recruiting goals.
