Viewpoint: A teacher from Texas A&, M. claims that Trump’s transparency is what authoritarians practice.
A doctor at Texas A&M University claims that President Donald Trump uses open communication and standard media access to act as an “authoritarian.”
Authoritarians like Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Professor Jennifer Mercieca, use a “propaganda strategy” of” [d ] eliberately overwhelming people with a flood of news content.”
According to Mercieca in The Conversation, they do but” to alter reality and prevent individuals from objectively evaluating the actions of their government.”
She previously described Donald Trump as a fascist in a book called” Demagogue for President” and added that he possessed “rhetorical genius.”
The communications teacher claimed that since taking office, Trump has “already answered almost five times as many questions as he did at this time in his first presidency.”
The president has also held 18 press events in the last two weeks, which is close to the average for his first term in office.
You’d think that the press’s transparency may be accepted as a positive and effective trait because the free world’s leader is available and eager to answer questions. This is undoubtedly a significant progress from basement dweller President Joe Biden and his team, who downplayed his apparent cognitive decline. Since Jake Tapper wrote a book about it, the media is then free to accept what everyone else saw straight in front of their vision.
However, college professors have a way of seeing something ominous in all Trump does, alas.
Trump is “invading the media with an unending tidal wave of media content to occupy and destroy the zone” in the words of Mercieca, according to Mercieca.
While some politicians use communication to “promote democracy,” the doctor wrote that” [o]r political leaders use conversation in unjust ways to manipulate and pressure, preventing people from using their purpose and critical thinking skills to analyze guidelines.”
Trump’s then plan is to” make an unrelenting tidal wave of content” to get the attention of the populace on himself and, as a result, drown out different voices.
He is the chairman after all, and he wants the spotlight on himself, just like any politician or performer. That might be a sign of stupidity, but it doesn’t destroy the nation.
In some ways, Professor Mercieca is right that Trump is quite adept at managing the internet. Tulsi Gabbard and Kash Patel were chosen by the president to tackle issues that appeal to his center. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. was chosen for vaccination health and food method problems, Pete Hegseth for restoring the government’s reputation, and Kristi Noem for securing the frontier. Elon Musk’s quasi-official position at the Department of Government Performance has proven to be effective for boosting press coverage.
All of these picks are well-known, have made numerous media appearances, and charm to Trump’s center.
On the other hand, he has chosen reserved and measured tones for significant opportunities with wonkier assets, like Doug Burgum for the Department of Interior and Scott Bessent for Treasury Secretary.
Trump’s productive press career does not render him an “authoritarian” or “demagogue,” but rather a very resilient talent.
