The Trump administration claims that “UMaine’s decision to support sobriety is a gain for women and girls in Maine.”
The federal government reported this week that the University of Maine System has” evidently stated” that female players will not be permitted to compete in women’s sports in accordance with Title IX.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture temporarily halted federal funding for the common school last week, citing a probe into its inclusion of female athletes who identify as transgender in women’s sports, according to Fox News.
In a media release released on Wednesday, the ministry stated that “UMaine’s decision to support sanity is a win for Maine’s women and girls.”
According to the office, the school “has evidently communicated its conformity with Title IX’s need to protect equal opportunities for women and girls to engage in healthy and good sports, as articulated in President Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order.”
But, it also warned that” a]ny false claim by the UMaine can, and will, effect in onrous and yet potentially unlawful financial duty.”
” Umaine has been able to access all federal funds from USDA since February 26, 2025,” the department stated. The rest of Maine has the option to either protect equal rights for women, as required by law, or drop funding.
University Chancellor Dannel Malloy resigned over the district’s statement.
In a speech to WMTW 8, Malloy expressed his relief at the Department’s Title IX compliance review, allowing the land-grant University of Maine and our provincial partners to continue to rely on USDA and various vital federal funds to improve and expand our dependent rural economies and our natural resource economy through world-class education, research, and extension.
According to Fox News, Malloy and another officials added that the school has often complied with the law.
UMS, a channel of eight people colleges in Maine, claims it has always adhered to state and federal law and has always adhered to the NCAA’s revised female plan to stay trans athletes out of the women’s type since the NCAA’s update was made on February 6. In a continuing dispute between the state and the federal government over transgender participation in women’s and girls sports, UMS was given a momentary pause in revenue from the USDA next week. Only days later, the revenue was reinstated.
The Trump administration also suspended funding for the University of Pennsylvania this month, claiming that the Ivy League institution is not adhering to its rules regarding children’s activities, according to The College Fix.
The White House Rapid Response team wrote on X on Wednesday that the Trump administration “paused$ 175 million in federal funding from the University of Pennsylvania” over its plans that made women compete with men in activities.
A UPenn director told Fox News on Wednesday that the school had” not yet received any formal notification or any details” regarding a federal money block but was informed of the reports.
The U.S. Department of Education is looking into the Philadelphia university for possible Title IX violations, according to the report.
