After an unidentified person defaced a monument of hockey star Wayne Gretzky with faeces, a statue in Edmonton became the goal of vandalism. In light of ongoing criticism of Gretzky’s political ties to US President Donald Trump, the event, which occurred outside Rogers Place, has attracted notice.
On Friday morning, employees were seen cleaning the monument in an effort to get the uncomfortable mess out of the four-time Stanley Cup champion. The perpetrator’s identity is unknown, and the action comes as a result of growing public outcry over Gretzky’s social organizations.
Gretzky, who endorsed Trump during the 2020 presidential plan, wore the red” Make America Great Once” hat to his January opening. Despite growing trade disputes and political rivalries, his support for the US senator has persisted despite the president’s support.
Trump has officially praised Gretzky, perhaps making jokes in a January statement that he would appoint the hockey legend as governor if the US were to seize Canada as its 51st state. Gretzky was just booed at a Canada-US hockey game because of the remarks, which heightened his reputation abroad. Moreover, over 13,600 names have been added to an online complaint calling for the rewriting of Edmonton’s Wayne Gretzky Drive.
Gretzky, who began his famous NHL job with the Oilers before playing for the Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, and New York Rangers, retired from the game in 1998-99. His status as” The Wonderful One” is unmatched in the game, but his political relations have sparked unanticipated controversy in his native nation.
As the research for the mugger continues, authorities are reviewing security footage from the area.
