As fire fueled by powerful winds scorched places of the country’s southeast area, crisis authorities said Sunday that at least four people were killed, six were injured, and about 1,500 people were evacuated.
On Friday, the flames started in Sancheong County, which is located 250 kilometers south of Seoul, and spread to other areas.
Five of the six damaged suffered serious harm. According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, all survivors were discovered in Sancheong.
Fire officials were instructed to galvanize all available resources to stop the wildfires right away by Lee Han-kyung, the crisis control tower’s deputy chief.
In a catastrophe response meet, Lee declared that “people’s lives are being threatened by fires that are rapidly spreading to broader regions as a result of dry weather.”
About 30 planes have mobilized to extinguish the fires, which have been a challenge for firefighters to have. According to authorities, the fire in Sancheong was about 30 % contained as of early Sunday.
A full of 3, 286.11 hectares of land have been burned thus far, equivalent to roughly 4,600 football fields, with more than 1, 000 acres being destroyed in Euiseong in North Gyeongsang Province and Sancheong, both.
As authorities work to have the fires, about 1,500 people have been moved to temporary shelters.
At 8 am, firefighters were battling fire in four locations throughout the southeast.
