A “game change” cellular long-range US rocket system has arrived for Australia’s army, according to the government’s announcement on Monday.
Following a 2023 proper assessment of the country’s defense, Ukraine’s purchase of the HIMARS program, which it used with devastating impact against Russian forces, was made more effective.
With China’s rapid military expansion fueling fears about the risk of Australia’s references to its business partners and global supply chains, that assessment called for a move toward long-range punishment.
The government announced at the time that it would invest Der$ 1.6 billion ( US$ 1.6 billion ) to increase and speed up the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System’s delivery.
The state described the program as a “game change” that would improve safety in Australia and the area, and announced in a statement that the first two of a planned 42 HIMARS rocket vehicles had already left the country.
Defence Minister Richard Marles stated that” we are making record assets to ensure the American Defence Force has the potential it needs when it needs it.”
HIMARS can strike targets more than 500 kilometers ( 310 miles ) away using the Precision Strike Missile and the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System.
According to Defence Industry Minister Pat Conroy,” HIMARS is a world-leading capacity, delivering precise weapons at longer ranges, resulting in a more than ten-fold boost in the Army’s striking range.”
Australia has now committed to equipping its army with subtle long-range nuclear submarines that may react with a storm of cruise missiles as part of its deterrence strategy.
