People of the nation reported to Radio Free Asia that angry North Vietnamese soldiers are selling some of their military equipment to get food, causing authorities to conduct checks that have resulted in some men being caught without all their issued products.
Although the military is frequently portrayed as being under-supplied, military-grade products tend to be of higher quality than those available to the general public, making them attractive.
Although weapons are frequently used during training, personal items like huts, lunch boxes, restaurants, and durable grain containers are not frequently used, so some soldiers assume they won’t be missed.
RFA has previously reported that men frequently and often go hungry, and some even and steal from and get food from inhabitants and residents.
A native of the northern province of North Hamgyong told RFA Korean on condition of anonymity that the checks started earlier this month and will now take place regularly.
According to him,” the government recently discovered that some young men are selling their military-issued equipment or giving it to individuals they know because they are thirsty and need money.” During this inspection, quite a few soldiers were discovered without the items they were supposed to possess.
Canteens and waterproof rice bags, according to him, are two items that are specially sought-after.
He said those who were caught without all the appropriate equipment would face severe punishment.
They will be questioned about how they removed their defense equipment, he said. ” Steps will likely be taken,” such as having them return their products or paying for the missing items.
Not much food
A native of the northern province of North Pyongan, who was speaking on condition of anonymity, told RFA during the shock inspection that it had instructed the soldiers to arrange for a combat exercise in an empty field.
He said,” I heard this from a guy who often comes to my house.” ” The things that were most raised during the examination were individual houses and government corn tanks.” Additionally, there was a unit that was lacking some shovels.
He claimed that everyone needs a corn box and that tents can be used to cover holes in houses and other structures.
After graduating from high school at the age of 18, able-bodied men are required to offer 10 times in the 1.2 million-strong defense, while able-bodied women are required to provide seven years.
However, meals may be little, and RFA has reported that shortly after enlisting, new recruits admit with their parents for meals.
Some just engaged men are so eager that they will covertly sell their military-issued goods, he said. Without the resolution of persistent issues like appetite, it will be challenging to totally eliminate this phenomenon.
