Yunseo Chung, a 21-year-old Columbia University student, is suing the Trump administration in federal court after Immigration and Customs Enforcement ( ICE ) attempted to deport her despite her legal resident status.
The Columbia rookie is asking a judge to stop the presidency from detaining her, removing her from New York City, or removing her from the state while her complaint is being filed.
This learner claims that the Trump administration is deporting her because of her pro-Palestinian beliefs, just like Mahmoud Khalil.
Trump has pledged to withdraw visas for foreign students who take part in pro-Palestinian protests and condemn Israel’s battle efforts on numerous occasions since 2023.
After being detained on March 5 while protesting the Ivy League’s punitive measures against student protesters, Chung, a permanent tenant who originally immigrated to the US at age 7 from South Korea, claimed Immigration and Customs Enforcement moved to arrest her.
The legitimate action began on Monday after ICE issued an administrative warrant for Chung’s arrest, disclosing that the South Korean citizen’s position had been revoked, despite immigration judges having exclusive authority over this, according to The Hill.
According to the legal documents, ICE searched her home and school dormitory before searching her.
Chung’s surprising actions are just one more example of the attempted U.S. government repression of speech and protests that are constitutionally protected. The lawsuit reads,” The president’s suppression has focused particularly on college students who speak out in cooperation with Palestinians and who are critical of the Jewish administration’s ongoing military battle in Gaza or the US government’s pro-Israeli plans and other US organizations.”
