A university spokesperson calls the removal of DEI language a” administrative mistake.”
Turns out, Cornell University continues to stick to its hiring principles of “diversity, capital, and participation.”
The Ivy League institution’s Equal Education and Employment Opportunity Statement was reinstated on Friday after earlier this month, according to The Cornell Daily Sun.
A school spokesman described the removal of the DEI speech as a” administrative error.”
” We remain unwavering in our responsibility to equal opportunity. The director told the Sun that the statement includes small edits to understand the regulations that still apply to qualified secured veterans and people with disabilities and to remove the affirmative action requirements for federal contractors.
According to the school website, the recently revised declaration will need to be approved by the board of directors.
The new statement reads, in piece,” Cornell University’s story of diversity and inclusion encourages all students, faculty, and staff to help a diverse and inclusive university in which to operate, research, train, research, and serve.”
According to the Sun, the terminology is different from earlier modifications that were made in early March.
As of March 21, the University has updated its past EEO speech to emphasize acknowledgment of “individual performance” rather than personality and history, reaffirming its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Moreover, resources for bias have been restored. In contrast to the type that went before March 2025, the revised declaration no more mentions affirmative action requirements. …
Cornell changed its EEO speech to forbid references to DEI and discriminatory tools, according to a report from The Sun. The statement continued as it was being updated and read,” Cornell University is an Equitable Option Employer and Educator supporting individuals with disabilities and soldiers. Discover more during the hour. elliott edu/EEO”.
In contrast, the initial statement emphasizes Cornell’s commitment to diversity and inclusion, saying that” Cornell University’s story of diversity and inclusion encourages all students, faculty, and staff to help a diverse and inclusive university in which to work, study, train, research, and offer.”
Veterans and those with disabilities are also included in the most recent statement, according to the report.
In response to President Donald Trump’s executive order to “end illegal discrimination and restore merit-based opportunity,” a number of higher education institutions are removing their DEI offices, programs, and statements.
The Board of Regents at the University of California approved ending DEI statements when hiring faculty, according to The College Fix.
