The U.S. Senate appoints business John Phelan as the Trump administration’s secretary of the Navy on Monday in a 62-30 voting.
On March 11, the Senate Armed Services Committee approved Phelan’s election and presented it to the whole Senate for attention. Phelan’s election was reported “favorably” in a move call voting, the council just saying that the committee had not specified the final vote break.
Phelan addressed a number of contentious issues plaguing the world’s maritime pressure during his confirmation hearing on February 27. Among those made were those about America’s manufacturing woes, which have caused the Navy’s fleet size to significantly decrease since the Cold War ended.
The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps are still the world’s most fierce military power. However, according to Phelan’s opening speech, the U.S. Navy is at a turning point. ” Systemic losses have gone unaddressed for far too long, massive cost overruns, delayed manufacturing, failed reviews, poor housing, and unfortunately, record-high death rates. And to be honest, this is intolerable.

Phelan also covered the government’s recruiting crisis, which developed under the Biden management. The former private investment told lawmakers that the Navy must make sure its requirements “are large” and that the people it’s bringing into its ranks” does meet those standards” while addressing the previous government’s selection to lower defense eligibility standards to make up for the issue.
There is no room for error because the firm is warfighting. So you need the best and most worthy people, and we need high standards to do that, according to Phelan. When you hire someone for an urgent need, they often find it impossible to advance to that position. We must be employing the” Mr. and Mrs. Tomorrows” in this industry to ensure that they can thrive and succeed.
