Israeli father Luis Har, 72, recounted his 129-day suffering under the auspices of Hamas. He described how he had to prepare meals for his prisoners while surviving on hardly any food on his own.
Har, who was taken from Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak on October 7, 2023, recalls being held at gunpoint alongside four additional victims in a small apartment in Gaza. He immediately had access to a variety of ingredients, starting with shakshuka, pancakes, and soups, and was later given the task of cooking meals for both his brother captives and five armed guards. However, as the conflict raged, food sources slowed and the captives were left to fend for themselves on pieces.
” Carefully, slowly, the food ceased to be. There were no more hens at second. There were also fewer pitas. We shared one bread per time, quarter for Fernando and the other half for me, and it was just Fernando and me in the last few weeks. And we were only consuming a small portion of the bread at a time, but there would be enough for the entire day,” Har told the New York Post. They also had to divide a one liter of water between them.
One of the jihadists once said,” Thank you for the meal,” Har said.
Har and his brother prisoner began hiding their sparse meals after fearing they would die. One of the terrorists had simply take whatever he may observe. He would simply enter, and if there was only one bread, he would accept it. He said,” We started hiding that one pita under a pillow.”
Another freed captives have claimed that the violent party hoarded humanitarian assistance intended for citizens while Hamas informed them that Gaza was running out of food as a result of Jewish military action.
Eli Sharabi, another released captive, told the UN Security Council in March that” Hamas eats like princes while victims starve.”
Har lost 35 pounds while he was in prison, dropping from 187 to 152. According to Israel’s Ministry of Health, some victims reported losing up to 40 % of their body mass.
You move gently, I tell you. You speak carefully. You do all gradually to maintain your vitality,” Har said of his natural state.
Beyond hunger, they were constantly at risk of murder. We would go to bed with one open vision. We always knew that Hamas were there, and that if one told them to destroy us, they would do it, he said.
The prisoners ‘ attitudes were unpredictable. They were” some time in a great feeling, some were more aggressive,” Har said. You had to know how to act appropriately at the appropriate moment.
The existing circumstances were awful. Only once every two months, using a shared bucket of cold water and a piece of soap, were the victims permitted to clean. When autumn arrived, they were only given a thin strip and a pair of hole-ridden boots and were kept in the same clothing they were kidnapped in.
At least 24 captives are believed to be still alive after the conflict broke out in Gaza on March 18, while 35 people are reportedly already dead.
Har is currently conducting a speech journey throughout North America to draw attention to the victims who are still being held captive.
He said,” I’m just trying to keep the families ‘ hope alive.” ” October 7 is never the date and the source of all these issues.” How many people did Israel bomb only get to learn.
