A 3-month-old daughter of a Pennsylvania fire captain has been reportedly inflicted with violent injuries on her by a fire chief who allegedly told police he” threw her on the ground” out of anger because she “won’t prevent crying.”
According to court records obtained by NBC Philadelphia, Falls town fire chief Brian Salt, 36, initially claimed knowledge about his sister’s injury when he brought her to his in-laws ‘ home. However, after discovering the baby had a fractured skull, medical staff at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia alerted the authorities.
According to Falls township police detective DennisO’Connell, Salt admitted to telling the media that he had “forcefully” removed the baby from a swing before throwing her to the ground during questioning. Salt allegedly cited “being overly frustrated” as his justification for the violent act, blaming the infant for being “very fussy.”
Given Salt’s background in a professional setting, authorities were shocked by the incident. He also serves as an EMT and firefighter in Northampton Township in addition to being the fire chief. When it involves your own child ,O’Connell said,” He should clearly know how to handle any kind of stressful situation, especially one of this nature.”
Salt was detained last Thursday and booked into the Bucks County jail on suspicion of aggravated assault, simple assault, and child endangering the welfare of a child. He is scheduled to show up in court on April 2. His daughter’s condition is still undetermined.
Falls township fire company# 1 announced his indefinite suspension following his arrest, pending the outcome of the legal process. The department stated that” we are committed to ensuring transparency as we move forward” and that we are aware of the impact this situation has on our community.
