What moves California has changed.
In the Golden State, fuel pumps are now more prevalent than electric vehicle charging ports, a testament to the rise in zero-emission vehicles on the road. However, the moment comes as the federal government makes a decision to prioritize the transition ahead from gasoline-powered vehicles.
Over the past few years, California has rapidly expanded its EV charging system with both public and private charging stations. California had 178, 500 full EV ports in 2024, which is roughly 120, 000 rated gasoline nozzles, according to the California Energy Commission.
Since 2022, the number of available chargers has almost doubled in California. The state has recorded around 26, 000 extra publicly available EV chargers merely since August, the final time these numbers were officially updated.
Almost 17 000 chargers are regarded as fast chargers, which charge a car in a matter of minutes, and more than 162, 000 of which are Level 2 and can provide between 14 and 35 miles of range per hour. However, many hybrid cars are not equipped to use fast chargers.
According to express quotes, more than 700,000 Stage 2 batteries have been installed in single-family homes throughout the state.
California is attempting to ban the sale of gas-powered cars in the state by 2035, despite the Trump presidency and congressional Republicans ‘ criticism of those programs.
The practice for California EV drivers is improving day by day, according to CEC Chairman David Hochschild in a speech. The condition will continue to make significant investments in EV system, with a specific focus on hard-to-reach locations, making these cars a simple choice for new automobile buyers.
There has also been a significant increase in new batteries installed, according to the company, which is a part of the spectacular increase in the provincial count. In 2024, the state’s data contained 73,500 chargers, of which only 38, 000 were recently installed.
The EV industry now has to wrestle with a significant problem: the White House. The Trump administration has signaled fierce opposition and reversed procedures that were intended to boost the EV industry and step out gas-powered vehicles, including the goal of EVs making up half of new vehicles sold in the U.S. by 2030.
According to the Portland Business Journal, and the Miami Herald, a similar pattern is reported for Florida’s plans to build more EV charging ports. The federal government has paused a$ 15-million offer to increase Oregon’s EV charging system.
The United States Department of Transportation awarded 29 states, eight officially recognized tribes, and the District of Columbia$ 521 million in August to expand the country’s EV charging system. More than 9, 200 Volt charging ports were funded by California, which received almost$ 150 million for their structure in Los Angeles County’s underrepresented communities.
According to the most recent federal data from the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, there are more than 77,300 Vehicle charging facilities and almost 216,400 open ports across the nation and Puerto Rico.
