‘Not the first jolt of magnitude 7’: NCS director on Myanmar earthquakes

Along the Sagaing Fault, there were six major disasters, of which the strongest were 7.2 and 7.0 amplitudes. According to Bangkok’s great liquefaction risk, these tremors, which occur at shallow depths, caused damage. The National Centre for Seismology continues to monitor waves and shows the area’s long record of strong geological exercise.

According to Dr. OP Mishra, chairman of the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the six tremors that shook Myanmar on Friday occurred along the country’s longest wrong line, which extends 1,200 kilometers.
This is not the first disaster of this magnitude to strike this place, Mishra told ANI, underscoring the fact that the region has a long history of geological activity.
At 11:50 am IST, a strong 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck at a deep depth of 10 miles, followed by a strong aftershock at 12:02 PM.
In the following days, further waves of 5.0, 4.9, 4.4, and 4.3 scale were spotted.
According to Mishra, the principal tremors had a depth of 20 to 30 kilometers, making them more destructive. He added that the Sagaing Fault, an alluvial buckle with great compression risks, ruptured in Bangkok, which was responsible for the damage.
The spasms were felt in Bangkok, where some structures could not survive the shock, according to Mishra.
Officials are keeping an eye on waves, according to NCS, with the last number anticipated in the next 24 hrs.
