Helyeh Doutaghi, a research fellow at Yale Law School, has been placed on administrative leave for alleged ties to Samidoun, a U.S.-designated criminal firm.
The Israeli Onliner first reported on the claims on March 2 and immediately received a report from Yale’s student paper, The Buckley Beacon.
Since Sep. 2023, Doutaghi had served as the deputy chairman of the Yale Law School’s Law and Political Economy Project. Her place was scheduled to end soon.
In a 2024 news release designating the Samidoun Palestinian Prisoner Solidarity Network as a” sham charity that serves as an international fundraiser for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine ( PFLP ) terrorist organization, the U.S. Treasury Department stated that the group is a” sham charity that serves as an international fundraiser for the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine ( PFLP ) terrorist organization.”
In a July 2022 content, Samidoun itself identified Doutaghi as a “doctoral pupil of international rules and a member of the international Samidoun system.”
On March 17, a plea was launched in Doutaghi’s security accusing Yale of badly railroading her based on unidentified, AI-researched claims. To date, more than 1, 000 faculty in the U.S. and Canada have signed it.
Dr. Doutaghi is a published and internationally recognized author of articles on international law, social business, and armed conflict. She earned her PhD in legal studies in 2024 at Carleton University ( Ottawa, Canada ), the petition claims.
Her PhD essay examined the causes, systems, and results of US and international sanctions against Iran. She has always fought for the right and self-determination of downtrodden people, including Palestinians, throughout her studies, it claims.
We ask Yale University, Yale Law School, and the Law and Political Economy Project to hold responsible for the actions taken against Dr. Doutaghi, including a public speech clearing her name and restoring her popularity.
According to The Jewish Onliner, Doutaghi and Khaled Barakat, who were both designated as PFLP terrorists, spoke on a screen titled” Palestine and Iran – Changing the Global Balance of Power” in April 2022.
The panel’s host, Masar Badil, is also regarded as a PFLP before.
Doutaghi posed for a picture under the Samidoun emblem at the” Liberation Conference” in Ottawa in April 2023. Charlotte Kates, a top Samidoun part and the family of Khaled Barakat, was one of the other guests.
Doutaghi was scheduled to address a delayed screen she organized in October 2024 titled” The Resistance Front and the New Global Order-Making,” which Samidoun had sponsored. Additionally, Khaled Barakat was listed as a scheduled speech.
Eric Lee, Doutaghi’s attorney, did not respond to requests for comment from The College Fix. However, according to the New York Times, Lee “questioned the accuracy of Israeli Onliner’s monitoring in communications with Yale.”
The website’s claim that it is” AI-empowered” has sparked controversy among Doutaghi’s supporters, who claim that it may be spreading false information. The Fix independently verified the information provided in the Israeli Onliner content, though.
In an interview with the New York Times, Doutaghi claimed that the monitoring was meant to “tease scientists,” and that” those things happen under totalitarian dictatorships, which Donald Trump is trying to establish.”
The Fix contacted Yale Law School and Yale University for reply, but neither institution responded.
Alden Ferro, top associate director of public affairs at Yale Law School, stated in a speech to The Buckley Beacon that” we take these claims very severely and instantly opened an investigation into the matter to investigate the details.”
According to The New York Times, Ferro even claimed that Doutaghi does have engaged in “potential unlawful conduct” and that” such an action is not initiated based on a person’s secured speech.”
