A Delta Air Lines flight and a US Air Force jet collided near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA ) on Friday, prompting the federal aviation administration ( FAA ) to launch an investigation. The incident occurred just months after a tragic incident that occurred at the same aircraft in January, which left 67 people dead.
According to the FAA and the national transportation safety board (NTSB), Delta Air Lines Flight 2983, an Airbus A319 traveling to Minneapolis-St Paul ( MSP), left its gate at 2.55 pm local time and was cleared for takeoff around 3.15 pm. Four US Air Force T-38 Wings were on their way to Arlington National Cemetery for a planned bridge at the same time.
An onboard notice alerted the crew of another plane near as the Delta plane climbed after takeoff. According to the FAA, air traffic controllers gave both planes prompt remedial guidelines. According to New York Post, shortly after exit, the NTSB made it known that there had been” a loss of isolation” between Delta Flight 2983 and another aircraft.
According to Delta, its flight crew responded in accordance with their training, following instructions from the plane’s Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS )
Nothing is more critical than the health of our employees and customers, according to a Delta director. The flight staff followed instructions to maneuver the aeroplane, so that’s why.
On board the flight were 131 people, two aircraft, and three flight attendants.
The NTSB claimed to be gathering information at the moment but has not yet officially opened its own investigation, while the FAA has launched an investigation into the event.
