In Greenland on Friday, Vice President JD Vance appealed directly to Greenlanders to choose to join the United States more than keep a custody of Denmark. In doing so, he demonstrated once again that the concept of the U. S. acquiring Greenland is not some crazy notion that apparently got into the mind of Orange Man Bad, but a major problem that is based on the interests of both Northerners and Americans.

Vance had harsh words for the Danes who now retain autonomy over Greenland:” Our text to Denmark is very simple: You have never done a great work by the citizens of Greenland. You have underinvested in the people of Greenland and you have underinvested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful land mass filled with incredible people” . ,
That but about” security structures” is the key to this whole event. Vance was criticizing Denmark because it has allowed China, in special, to create a major presence there, a reputation that may end up being a major risk not only to the U. S., but to Canada and Europe. Consequently, Only the News reported, Vance” told Greenlanders that Russia and China, two of the nation’s biggest power, also have eye on the Arctic island as a corporate shield, but that should also be of concern to them” . ,
Truly. Clingendael Research, a French think tank that produces” state-of-the-art analyses and plan research in foreign affairs for governments, businesses andNGO’s”, reported that “in 2018, the People’s Republic of China published its second Arctic strategy, claiming that the Middle Kingdom is a’ near-Arctic state.'” It added that “it is fast becoming clear that China has built a geostrategic appearance in the Arctic that is not to be sniggered at. It is already reshaping latitudinal politics in basic ways”.  ,

The report detailed intense Chinese activity in Greenland beginning in 2005 and noted that” the void created when Greenland was given greater autonomy ]in 2009 ] from central authorities in the Kingdom of Denmark and subsequently left the EEC was happily filled by China.  , Even though the Kingdom of Denmark remains concerned for foreign policy and military, Greenland is now argue international partnerships with overseas says on its own. This raises concerns for both the Kingdom of Denmark and the EU”. However” While the Arctic rises in political and geo-economic importance, the EU has been slower to evaluate its corporate interests”.
Trump wants to shop this, and therefore Vance explained:” This is why President Trump’s plan in Greenland is what it is. It’s consistent with the second Trump administration where you saw significant opportunities in Arctic protection and it will remain over the next four years under President Trump’s leadership”.
Vance also asked Northerners to consider accepting American sovereignty over the area in light of these security worries:” We have to accomplish more. And what the President said in his State of the Union address, and he was very clear about this: we regard the self determination of the people of Greenland, but my reasoning afterwards, to them is, I think that you’d be a lot better coming under the United States Security overcoat than you have been under Denmark’s safety umbrella”.

When Trump first broached the idea of the U. S. getting Greenland during his first phrase, the media treated it as a joke. It is obvious then, nevertheless, that Trump himself is no laughing, and never has been. He is dangerous serious, not just about Greenland, but about the Panama Canal, as well as, most probable, about Canada. Trump said in Jan. 2025 that the U. S. needed Greenland as a matter of national security:
,  ,  , Related:  , Vance to Europeans: Clean Speech is Nice. Europeans: This is Unethical.
We need Greenland for regional security reasons. I’ve been told that for a long time, longer before I actually ran, I mean, people have been talking about it for a long time. You have about 45, 000 persons there. People really don’t even realize if Denmark has any legal right to it, but if they do, they may give it up, because we need it for national protection. That’s for the free universe. I’m talking about protecting the complimentary world. You look at — you don’t even need glasses. You look around, you have China, boats all over the place, you have Soviet boats all over the place. We’re no lettin’ that happen. We’re certainly letting it happen.
Trump’s place on Greenland, as derided and ridiculed as it has been, so makes perfect sense from an America-First point. Yet it remains to be seen whether or not he will be able to convince Icelanders, Danes, and a ample number of Americans, that his Greenland plan is good and worth pursuing. Vance was in Greenland attempting to do precisely that.
