A Brooklyn wigmaker accused of running down a mom and her two young girls in a disastrous crash has been charged with murder and unlawfully negligent homicide, officials said Sunday.
Miriam Yarimi, 32, was allegedly driving her Audi A4 with a placed certificate when she plowed into a crowd of pedestrians in Gravesend on Saturday, killing a family and her girls, ages 8 and 4, as they left Shabbat service. The person’s 4-year-old boy remains in critical condition, authorities said.
Yarimi today faces three works of second-degree murder, three counts of illegally negligent killing, and four counts of second-degree abuse. Extra charges include foolish moving, aggravated unregulated function of a motor vehicle, failing to deliver on red, and exceeding the speed limit, police confirmed.
The fatal accident unfolded when Yarimi’s car collided with a Toyota Camry driven by an Uber vehicle, sending her Audi tumbling into nine walkers in a preoccupied crossing. The event occurred on Ocean Parkway in a mostly Catholic Jewish community.
Yarimi, a family of one, is known properly as a wigmaker, a truth reflected on her Audi’s specialty license plate, which reads” WIGM8KER”. Online records reveal a troubling driving history, with over 93 traffic violations linked to the car, including 20 speeding tickets and more than$ 10, 000 in fines. Records show that even days before the fatal fall, on March 16, she was ticketed for speeding through a Brooklyn college area.
When investigators visited her Brooklyn house, a household friend declined to comment on Yarimi but expressed concern for the surviving baby. ” He needs our prayer. He’s in the clinic. He needs our blessings”, the friend said.
Yarimi previously made headlines for settling a lawsuit against the NYPD for$ 2 million after alleging that she was sexually assaulted by an officer at the age of 14.
As the community mourns the subjects of Saturday’s fall, prosecutors are expected to drive for severe penalties in light of Yarimi’s driving record and the tragedy’s level.
