Japan: A powerful 7.1 scale earthquake hit near Tonga, prompting an original storm warning that was afterwards lifted for the Pacific island nation.
The US Geological Survey said the quake hit about 100 kilometers ( 62 miles ) northeast of the main island in the early morning hours of Monday local time. Days later, a second 6.1 scale collapse hit in the same place.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii issued an alert following the initial collapse, saying dangerous waves may be possible but afterwards said there was no longer a storm risk.
Wave lights may become heard after the 1: 18 a. m. collapse, urging people to walk inland, according to the Talanoa o Tonga information site. There were no first reports of destruction.
Occupants in theHa’apai beach party had quietly moved to higher floor, the report said.
