MINNEAPOLIS ( AP ) — A University of Minnesota international student is being detained by U. S. immigration authorities, school leaders said in a statement this week.
University authority said U. S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained the grad student on Thursday at an off-campus home. They described the situation as “deeply concerning”.
The student is enrolled in business class at the university’s Twin Cities school.
What prompted the child’s confinement is not yet known. An Associated Press message requesting post from ICE was never returned on Saturday.
University officials said the university is providing the scholar with legal aid and other assistance services. University of Minnesota officials said college authorities did not share information with national authorities and were not given advance notice about the confinement.
