According to a recent report, the Internal Revenue Service ( IRS ) is close to reaching an agreement with the Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency ( ICE ) to share data relating to illegal immigrants.
Politico reported , the new deal may indicate immigration officials may verify names and addresses of those who are in the region illegally through payer directories. Recently, personal tax information was just shared with federal law enforcement under limited circumstances.
The Washington Post reported that ICE exposure to tax information may be limited to confirming the names of workers with last treatment orders. Just Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem or acting ICE producer Todd Lyons was submit requests, which must include the name and address of each tax.
” We’ve seen that this administration is certainly pulling out all the stops and trying to use every potential lever of the government to find and deport undocumented immigrants” , , said Theresa Cardinal Brown, a former Department of Homeland Security official under the Bush and Obama administrations, Politico reported.
