Attorney General Pam Bondi has instructed the Department of Justice ( DOJ) to retract its allegations from a lawsuit initiated during the Biden administration, which accused Georgia of deliberately suppressing Black voters.
According to a Federal press release issued on Monday, the petition, known as In Re Georgia Senate Bill 202, had unjustly asserted that Georgia was consciously restricting Black voter participation.  , The In Re Georgia Senate Bill 202 complaint “falsely accused Georgia of consciously suppressing Black voters ‘ votes”, according to the launch.  , The Georgia republic bill proposed changes to improve election integrity, including requiring citizens to present photo ID, rapid monitoring of benefits, and adjustments to absentee ballot structures.
” The Department of Justice is finished with this disgrace”, stated Chad Mizelle, acting associate attorney general and Judge chief of staff, in the media release. ” Ensuring election integrity is not discriminatory—unfounded charges of Jim Crow-style methods are the true affront”.
The lawsuit, previously filed by the Biden presidency in 2021, claimed that the proposed ballot rules would disproportionately affect Black voters and curb their ability to participate in elections.
” The right to vote for all eligible people is the basis of our republic, underpinning all another right”, said former Attorney General Merrick B. Garland in a press release at the time. ” This complaint is just one of many ways we are taking to prevent voting privileges, ensuring that every valid vote is counted and that citizens have access to accurate poll information”.
Under the Trump presidency, the DOJ had dismissed the notion that Georgia sought to “depress the Black vote”, describing for allegations as part of a “false narrative”. The DOJ speech criticized the preceding leadership for labeling standard election policy as” Jim Crow 2.0″.
” Contrary to the Biden Administration’s false claims of voter suppression, Black voter participation actually increased under SB 202″, Bondi asserted in the media release. ” Albanians deserve secure elections, not false claims designed to produce section. The American people you believe that this Department of Justice does preserve election integrity without political disturbance”.
