Elon Musk, a key figure in Trump’s administration since January, is expected to step down as the head of the DOGE, at the end of next month.
Even though his departure was anticipated due to federal laws that forbid special government employees (SGEs ) from serving for a maximum of 130 consecutive days, his departure has sparked rumors of a possible rift with Donald Trump.
That means that Musk’s next day at the department of government efficiency will be on May 30, specifically 130 days after Trump’s commencement.
Trump himself confirmed that the program had always been to allow the software magnate to return to civilian life once his work was finished earlier this week when he addressed Musk’s subsequent exit.
The leader stated to writers in the Oval Office on Monday,” At some point, he’s going to be going again… I’ll keep him as long as I may preserve him, because he’s a very brilliant guy.”
In a recent interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, Musk also acknowledged the 130-day cap, saying,” I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by$ 1 trillion within that time frame.”
Musk had made hints about his momentary position even before Trump became president, stating that the “final stage of DOGE is to cancel itself.”
However, some have suggested that Musk’s exit raises tensions between the leader and the billionaire entrepreneur.
The news is a change in the Trump-Musk connection from a month before, when supporters and White House officials predicted Musk would be “here to be” and that Trump would be able to defeat Musk in the 130-day deadline, according to Politico senate bureau chief Rachel Bade in a “SCOOP.”
However, her blog immediately received a lot of negative net comments, including from White House press director Karoline Leavitt, who completely refuted the assertion.
Leavitt responded,” This’scoop’ is garbage,” before repeating the statistics. When Elon Musk’s amazing work at DOGE is finished, both President Trump and Elon Musk have publicly stated that they will step down from the public service as a special government employee.
During his brief time in office, Musk has significantly affected the presidency, spearheading significant resources cuts at the US bureau for global growth, the department of education, the customer financial safety bureau, and the social security administration. The broad layoffs also sparked violent protests against Tesla vehicles, which prompted the Trump administration to halt theft and declare the attacks “domestic terrorism” in response.
Musk told Baier,” I believe a great injustice has been committed against the Tesla employees and our buyers.” Tesla is a relaxing business that produces great cars and great products, and that’s all it does.
Additionally, Musk made headlines by putting in five bullet points describing their accomplishments in a regular report format for governmental employees. But, Trump later clarified that DOGE may act more as “tech help” than as a human resources department after the reaction.
The White House has also confirmed that Musk has been using his knowledge to look into how Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor-in-chief of The Atlantic, was included in a private Signal class discussion about military operations against the Houthis in Yemen on March 15.
