
Living sciences companies have decided to trim hundreds of Bay Area jobs in a new influx of layoffs that hint at continued turmoil in the state’s biotech industry, state labor agency posts show.
All told, the biotechnology companies have revealed their motives to slice 310 Bay Area work, according to national finds the corporations sent to the California Employment Development Department.
The cuts add to what is shaping up to become a , weak first 2025 for the Bay Area work market , and , advanced technology , business.
Here are the facts of some of the expected work cuts that life science businesses have disclosed to the position EDD:
— Gilead Sciences, a biotech company, 149 cuts in Foster City. The team cuts are slated to appear on May 27.
— Roche Molecular Systems, a system of medical giant Roche, 108 work reductions in Santa Clara. The cuts are scheduled for May 28.
— Nkarta, a biotechnology company, 53 career breaks in South San Francisco. The compressing occurred on March 31.
The work cuts were all described as lasting in each of the three cases, according to the WARN finds posted by the express EDD. The workers involved are not part of a federation and do not have the right to remove employees with less tenure.
