American MP Dan Norris has been suspended from the Labour gathering following his arrest on conviction of murder and child sex crimes.
The 65-year-old, who represented North East Somerset and Hanham and is a previous Labour secretary, was taken into custody on Friday after authorities searched his district house. He has also been arrested on suspicion of wrongdoing in public office.
He has also been removed from the Labour party in the House of Commons.
In a statement, Avon and Somerset police said that a man in his sixties was arrested on Friday on suspicion of sexual offences against a girl ( under the Sexual Offences Act 1956 ), rape ( under the sexual offences act 2003 ), child abduction and misconduct in a public office.
” He’s been released on conditional bail for enquiries to continue. This is an effective and delicate investigation, but we’d politely ask people never to speculate on the circumstances but our enquiries may continue unhindered”.
The army confirmed it had received a recommendation from another policeman force in December 2024 regarding “alleged non-recent child sex crimes”. Most of the crimes are said to have taken place mostly in the 2000s,” we’re even investigating an alleged crime of assault from the 2020s”, they said, quoted by the Guardian.
The investigation is being led by officers from procedure Bluestone, the agency’s dedicated assault and significant sexual assault group. Authorities said the alleged victim is being supported and has been offered exposure to professional help.
A Labour Party director said,” Dan Norris MP was instantly suspended by the Labour Party upon being informed of his incarceration”.
” We cannot comment further while the police investigation is ongoing”, the spokesperson added.
Norris formerly served as the MP for Wansdyke between 1997 and 2010, and was elected as the president of the West of England in 2021. According to his official site, he trained with the NSPCC and has worked as a teacher and baby security officer.
Separately, Norris has also faced claims in connection with his position as head of the anti-hunting donation league against violent activities. He was accused of victimising a former staff and stepped down from the article in May 2024.
