Prince Harry made a unique return to the British this week for a legitimate fight over his government-funded protection, but he did so without a conference with his father, King Charles III, adding to the growing gap between the royal family.
The Duke of Sussex arrived in London on Sunday for a Court of Appeal hearing to discuss his long-running constitutional battle against the 2020 decision to end his state-funded police safety. No conversation occurred before the King and Queen Camilla departed for a state visit to Italy early on Monday despite being nearer to his parents.
A meeting was “never a genuine option,” according to resources cited by Fox News Digital.
Royal commentator Kinsey Schofield, who was quoted by Fox News as saying,” There is too much stress… the royal family just don’t believe him today,” was also quoted by Fox News. It’s unfortunate, it’s people, and it could cause problems in the future, particularly if Harry wins his appeal, according to another royal specialist, Richard Fitzwilliams.
Their final proved meeting took place in February 2024, when Harry recently flew to London following the monarch’s cancer treatment. Harry hoped that their strained marriage would be resolved as a result of the health problems at the time. In an interview with Good Morning America, he said,” Any condition, any disease, brings people up, and that makes me very happy.”
However, Charles was in London over the weekend for care, which the piece did not manage to get back together, according to The Sun. Only after Harry arrived, the queen flew to Rome.
A royal insider claimed that Charles had stopped responding to Harry’s calls and mails and that Buckingham Palace claims that the monarchy is “frustrated” by Harry’s claim that he has the power to influence safety choices, things Buckingham Palace claims is beyond the king’s control.
Harry’s defense attorney Shaheed Fatima claimed in court that a state committee failed to properly evaluate threats to his health and that his “bespoke” safety preparations were “unjustified and inferior.” She cited two major situations: Harry’s death and the 2023 photographers fight involving him and Meghan Markle, both of whom al-Qaeda called Harry’s death.
Meghan and The Prince, 40, resigned from royal duties in 2020 and presently reside in California. Harry has fought for protection in the UK since then, claiming he can comfortably travel without it. A prosecutor upheld the police officer’s request to serve as “private guards for the wealthy,” which he lost in a previous attempt to individually pay for police protection.
Harry continues to have a strained relationship with his family, especially with Charles and Prince William.
According to Fox News, the Prince’s efforts to maintain equality with his nephew, the heir to the throne, are thought to be a source of conflict. The King possibly doesn’t have the motivation or the power to have a tough conversation with his son, according to royal biographer Ingrid Seward.
King Charles is now serving on official duty in Italy, where he and Queen Camilla celebrated their 20th marriage celebration. Prince Harry’s legitimate struggle is still ongoing, with a written decision expected in the coming months.
