The US Geological Survey ( USGS ) reports that a 5. 0-magnitude earthquake struck northeastern Taiwan on Wednesday, shaking buildings in the capital Taipei but not seriously harming anyone.
East of Taipei, Yilan County, was hit by the earthquake at a level of nearly 70 kilometers. According to a Yilan Fire Bureau standard,” I felt the constructing shaking recently when the earthquake hit.” Local officials and the National Fire Agency, however, confirmed that no injuries or architectural damage had been reported.
Although all road companies, including high-speed trains, continued without interruption, Taipei’s rail recently slowed its station speeds as a protection.
Taiwan, which is situated on the seismically active Pacific Ring of Fire, often experiences disasters. The region’s most recent major tremor was in April of this year, when a deadly 7.4-magnitude collapse claimed the lives of at least 17 people and caused common death in Hualien. It had the most powerful performance in 25 times.
The 7.6-magnitude crisis in 1999, which claimed around 2,400 lives, continues to be Taiwan’s most devastating earthquake.
Taiwan has significantly improved its building code and developed a strong earthquake early warning system that now makes use of high-speed information, smartphones, and sensors across also rural regions in response to previous tragedies.
