Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency ( DOGE ) is once more making headlines with its aggressive effort to reduce what it thinks are unnecessary federal spending. The watchdog group announced on Wednesday that it had canceled 108 contracts it had called “wasteful,” and that it had proposed savings of$ 70 million and had a maximum value of$ 250 million.
A$ 14, 000 commitment made by the Department of Health and Human Services for an “executive transformative leadership education program” was one of the nixed contracts. A$ 5.2 million deal involving the US Office of Personnel Management, the HR department of the federal government, was another contentious material. It was intended to “provide strategic advisory and help to improve and enhance current processes and organizational systems.”
DOGE’s initiatives are visible on the street, not undetected. To obtain public opinion, Fox News Digital late polled Americans in Washington, DC, Detroit, Michigan, Houston, Texas, and Knoxville, Tennessee. There were no broken reactions. While some praised the effort to reduce overdrews, people criticized the organization for” trying to do their job with a sledge”
One of the group’s earlier actions included helping the US Coast Guard get rid of an “ineffective IT program” known as the Logistics Information Management System, which resulted in a$ 32.7 million savings.
DOGE has even taken issue with foreign aid investing. The US African Development Foundation’s new assault resulted in$ 51 million in cuts. That included facilities for fruit drying as well as funds formerly used to market items like shea butter and fruit juices.
The organization claims that its goal is to raise accountability and uncover abnormal or useless federal spending. Expand stated in a blog shared on X that it is still committed to removing what it considers to be economical inefficiencies in federal operations.
