Tehran’s nuclear program is scheduled for discussion with long-standing enemies Iran and the US on Saturday, in which Germany has urged for a “diplomatic answer” to be reached.
German Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Christian Wagner emphasized the need for a political solution at a meeting on Friday, citing “positive growth that there is a network for dialogue between Iran and the United States.”
Trump had first urged direct talks, but Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s foreign minister, insisted on directly speaking with US minister Steve Witkoff.
Trump had urged on April 9 that a defense activity was unavoidable if negotiations between the two nations don’t work out.
The discussions are scheduled to take place in Muscat, Oman, which has recently acted as a mediator between Tehran and the West.
Christian Wagner emphasized that” Iran should never develop nuclear weapons, as this would include huge destabilizing effects on the whole region.”
Wagner claimed that “finding a solution to this problem becomes more and more serious” and that Germany “remains really concerned about the Persian nuclear program… Iran has consistently raised the bar, significantly increasing enrichment capacities.”
Iran and EU3 ( the UK, France, and Germany ) had negotiated a nuclear deal in 2003.
A security agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA ), was signed by Germany, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council in 2015. This put a lot of strain on Iran’s nuclear program.
Under President Trump, the US withdrew from this agreement in 2018 and claimed that they had failed to have Iran’s local influence and missile program.
Iran and EU3 had engaged in a number of rounds of discussions past time about its nuclear program. Trump, on the other hand, claimed that” there will be bombing” if Iran doesn’t implement an partnership, as Reuters reported earlier this year.
