Meghan Markle’s troubled royal beginnings are revealed in” Duchess of Tough”: a new book.

Meghan Markle’s entry into the Royal Family was meant to be a breath of fresh air. But according to new claims in ‘Yes, Ma’am: The Secret Life of Royal Servants’ by royal author Tom Quinn, her transition from Hollywood to Kensington Palace was far from smooth, leaving palace aides divided and in some cases, deeply unsettled.
Meghan apparently stunned Palace workers by declaring she would “hit the floor running” prior to marrying Prince Harry.
According to Daily Mail,” She was a great believer in grabbing the bull by the ears, except the Royal Family is not really a bulls,” a former aide told Quinn.
” Meghan thought she knew better than a company that has been around for 1, 000 times and more,” another person said in a blunt way. According to insiders, Meghan was seen trying to direct more than talk during her initial meetings because they were uncomfortable.
The book claims that Meghan’s high expectations for employees and want to modernize made her the” Duchess of Difficult,” while others have affectionately referred to her as the” Duchess of Diverse” for her change-oriented method.
Some executives attributed Meghan’s behavior to a “messiah complex,” citing her desire to be” the most well-known and most loved member of the Royal Family,” according to The Sun.
Meghan and Harry’s need to be transformative figures was supported by artist Tina Brown, who claimed the pair were “drunk on a shared dream of being instruments of international change,” according to Quinn’s sources.
Meghan’s confrontational style contrasted striking with castle tradition.
You don’t do as you please, you do as you are told, according to an ex-aide who was quoted by the Daily Mail. Meghan’s trusted friends Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Lady Susan Hussey were reportedly given the go-ahead by the late Queen, but they were apparently rejected.
Meghan’s quick attempts to stir things up apparently irked Palace team, who is used to a slower, more polite approach like Princess Kate did. Meghan jumped in immediately after Kate slowly and carefully absorbed the environment, according to one nobleman.
Meghan had followers as well, even though her detractors were outspoken.
Some young staff members thought of her as being articulate, excited, and a champion for issues like gender equality, clear water, and human rights. However, disagreements over her leadership style reportedly caused some employees to form the” Sexy Survivors Club” and” swirl rumour, gossip, and backbiting” culture, according to Daily Mail.
A 2021 Palace investigation was launched but was never made publicly known despite Meghan and Harry’s legal team defaming bullying claims and calling them” calculated slander campaigns.”
Meghan after disputed this claim in Harry’s memoir Spare, insisting that HR had received a 25-page refutation. According to Harry,” Meg was seemingly a bully, that was the most recent violent campaign they’d helped orchestrate.”
Meghan was subject to scrutiny across the Atlantic. The Hollywood Reporter made damning claims in 2024 that she “marches round like a dictator in large heels” and that she “belittles” her staff, and Vanity Fair made claims of psychological burnout among her audio staff.
Despite the play, some people think Meghan made it happen and build her own path. However, the Sun speculates that if Kate had “taken a leaf out of Kate’s text and taken items slower,” her aristocratic book may have turned out differently.
In any case, Quinn states that “it doesn’t seem like she did find another opportunity.”
