
At least 113 people were killed when the ceiling of a well-known Santo Domingo bar collapsed early on Tuesday morning, making it one of the deadliest tragedies in the Dominican Republic’s story. Rubby Pérez, a renowned flamenco song, was one of the victims when the building collapsed.
The incident took place at Jet Set, one of the nation’s most well-known entertainment destinations, known for its fortnightly” Lunes de Jet Set” performances featuring top-notch local and international players. When the ceiling collapsed at 12:44 a.m. local time, plunging the place into conflict and darkness, Pérez, 69, was singing the merengue classic” De color de rosa” while the venue was in mid-performance.
Pérez’s body had been discovered during continuous search efforts, according to initial reports, but Center for Emergency Operations General Director Juan Manuel Méndez confirmed on Wednesday morning that he had survived.
At the time of the decline, how many people were inside the membership are still at large. The location can accommodate up to 1, 000 position and has a seating capacity of 700. According to local media reports, 267 doubts had been made for the night, with some furniture able to accommodate up to 10 friends.

The tragedy comes in response to various new tragedies in the Caribbean nation, including the 2023 San Cristóbal explosion that left 38 people dead and the 2005 Higüey prison fire that left 136 people dead.
One of the best-known performers of Mérengue was Rubby Pérez, who was born Roberto Antonio Pérez Herrera. He rose to fame with Wilfrido Vargas’s ensemble before launching a successful solo career in 1986 with a career spanning over four years.
