On Friday, the subsequent murder of a person facing the death penalty in the US state of South Carolina this year, was carried out by a firing squad.
Mikal Mahdi, 42, was put to death for the 2004 death of an off-duty police officer named James Myers, 56, and the death of a convenience store personnel three days prior. The murder was carried out by a three-person firing squad, according to a speech from the prison, with Mahdi being pronounced dead four hours later.
According to defence attorney David Weiss, the state of South Carolina executed him by firing squad tonight, which belongs in the darkest pages of history, never in a civilized society. From childhood until his last breath, Mikal died in complete ignorance of a program that had failed him at every move.
Before Mahdi killed him and set the system on fire, Morris discovered him hiding in a backyard shed at his house.
South Carolina death row prisoners have the option of receiving devastating injections, the electric chair, or the firing squad. The fire crew was chosen by Mahdi.
