U. S.  , Sen.  , Tommy Tuberville, R-Ala.,  , on Thursday accused a Democrat partner of being fallacious for blocking President Donald Trump ‘s , State Department , contenders after calling Tuberville a “maniac” for holding up military campaigns under Joe Biden’s president.
” It’s all for show up around”, Tuberville tweeted in response to a story on the keeps placed by Sen.  , Brian Schatz, D-Hawaii. ” Theatre. Fake indignation”.
During a speech on the , Senate , ground in , July 2023, Schatz called out Tuberville for months-long keep on hundreds of military nominees over the Pentagon’s abortion coverage, accusing Alabama’s senior legislator of abusing the lower chamber’s advice and consent position.
” Yes, every senator has enormous power. I can possibly prevent the defense expenses this week if I wanted to. But I didn’t. You know why? Because I’m not a maniac”, Schatz said. ” Because I understand that when you vest people through your citizens with this kind of energy you have to be very careful with how you exercise it”.
Schatz could not be reached for comment on Tuberville’s post.
In February, the , Hawaii , senator announced a , “blanket hold”  , on Trump’s nominees to the , State Department , until the administration’s “illegal attempt to shutter the , United States Agency for International Development , ( USAID ) as an independent agency is reversed”.
During his , July 2023 , ground speech, Schatz said he blocked “one or two stuff” in his , Senate , occupation, adding that Tuberville’s movement was unheard of.
” When I block things, people know I’m severe. And I have always — and I know no single … the latest 100 senators, besides , Sen. Tuberville, and no one else before him — I’ve never seen this in my life”, he said.
” Sen. Tuberville is hungry about an abortion issue, and so he’s preventing all of these common and flag soldiers from getting their offers. It’s awful for motivation, it’s bad for the chain of command” and military individuals, Schatz said.
” It’s got to stop. It’s awful for the state, it’s terrible for the , Senate, and it’s poor for , the United States , military troops”.
Tuberville ‘s , 10 months-long hold , on more than 425 military promotions requiring , Senate , confirmation was made in protest of the Pentagon reimbursing travel expenses for abortions.
The holds sparked issues at the Pentagon about major military leaders, including Lloyd Austin, the then-Defense Secretary, who warned that Tuberville’s hold might have led to the loss of martial skills.
